March Maptime Madness - Project Night!

Join us Tuesday March 3rd for the next MaptimeYVR! It’s project night, which means you get to bring whatever mapstuff you’re working on, hack it, flaunt it, shake it and make it with the nice vibes that flow in the maptime space (generously hosted by the BC Libraries Coop!)

Amr will start off with a minitutorial on how github and maps go together, and then we are on our own, together!

Bring your laptop, and as always, beginners are very welcome.

When 6.00 - 8.00 March 3rd

Where BC Libraries Coop, 605 Robson Street, Suite 850,

One of our members will be downstairs to let everyone in, until 6.15, so do try to make it by then! Contact us at maptimeyvr@gmail.com if you’re outside after this.

GitHub Is for Mappers!

Thanks to all of you who made it out for this week’s Maptime. What a great turnout it was! Many thanks to the BC Libraries Cooperative for loaning us the space - we literally couldn’t do this without them.

@amr told us ALL the things about GitHub, and we left the room, brains brimming with ideas about all the cool things we can do. Amr is, in true Maptime/GitHub spirit, generously sharing his slides over on his site if you want to have another look. Thanks!

Our next meeting will be a project night, on Tuesday March 3rd. Stay tuned for more info!

Maptime is for everyone regardless of background, technical skill. Maptime is for you! We welcome anyone wanting to share, learn, and teach anything related to cartography

Next Meetup February 17th - Better Git it Into Your Soul

Ever wondered what this thing called GitHub is and why webmappers are all about it? Scratched your head and thought ‘how the fork do I make a repo’? Wanna branch out and commit to a new issue? Are you thinking those last sentences sound like gibberish? You won’t after you’ve come to our next Maptime meetup!

GitHub is a platform for hosting and collaborating on projects. You don’t have to worry about losing data on your hard drive or managing a project across multiple computers — sync from anywhere. Most importantly, GitHub is a collaborative and asynchronous workflow for building software better, together.

Our next meetup is on Tuesday February 17th. Maptimer @Amr is teaching us what we need to know about GitHub and how we can use it in our mapmaking (Thanks Amr)!

Before you arrive, make a GitHub account (the free version is good enough for us) and install it (google “download github for your OS”) on your machine, so that you’re ready to go.

Remember to bring your own computer, and as always, beginners are very welcome!

such good project night wow

Thanks to all of you who came out and shared ideas and got the ball rolling on our very special, secret, super cool #MaptimeYVR project….

We sadly learned that some of you arrived after we had started our session, and were met with a locked door and no number to call :( We will definitely avoid those SNAFUs in the future, with more and better contact info.

Our next meetup is on February 17th. @Amr will be teaching us what we need to know about GitHub and how we can use it in our mapmaking (Thanks Amr)! More details to follow.
